How to care for your Personalized Jewelry
Properly caring for your personalized jewelry made from sterling silver and 14k gold will help maintain it's original shine and minimize tarnishing and damage.
Keeping your personalized jewelry free of foreign substances will limit the chance of damage to the silver or gold. Remove your jewelry when you shower, swim or when it may come into contact with cleansers, makeup, perfume, hair spray, deodorants, cremes or lotions.
Natural body oil, sweat and dirt can affect the jewelry as well. It can also cause silver to tarnish. Regularly soak your jewelry for a few minutes in warm (not hot) water mixed with a little mild soap then rinse well and very gently dry and buff it with a soft cotton cloth. This will remove the sweat, fingerprints and dirt that naturally cling to your jewelry.
Even with preventative care you will occasionally need to polish your personalized jewelry, particularly .925 sterling silver. Use a brand name silver polish that is non abrasive and carefully follow the directions on the label. When polishing, always rub the silver back and forth, in a straight line, rather than in a circular motion. Do not wear rubber gloves when polishing.
Do not wear personalized name jewelry to sleep, when changing clothes or when involved in strenuos physical activity. The jewelry can get caught on your shirt, nightgown or blanket and bend or even break.
Store your clean and dry personalized jewelry in a felt lined, wooden jewelry box or wrap it a soft cloth then seal it in a Ziploc bag.
